Friends

Friends. We all have many different types of friends even though you probably do not realize this. You encounter each of them everyday, whether in school, home, or at the gym. We rarely spend much time actually thinking about or classifying these people. There are your general acquaintances, who you basically only know their first name. You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. Usually, you meet these types of friends in school, at work, on the bus, in the gym, or anywhere else you might be. Another type of friend is a social friend. Social friends are closer than acquaintances, but nowhere near as close as a true friend. You would know their name, a little about their family and you would usually have a few things in common. Those two types of friends will always come and go, but the ones that will always be there for you are your best friends. You have probably known your best friends the longest and have grown up together. He or she probably knows everything about you and likewise you know everything about them. A true friend is like family. You would not mind if they stayed the night at your house or came out with you and your family. You know all of each other's strange little habits that no one else does, and all of those inside jokes that no one else understands. You can always tell when there is something wrong. A true friend is someone who you can always trust and share your deepest thoughts or feelings with. A true friend has no problems correcting you when you are wrong. They will always be there for you through the good times and the bad. You will always have the memories of the sleepovers, crushes, camping trips and the "What are we going to do tonight's." And even after all of the planning you would just end up going to watch a movie at someone's house. Sometimes those times would end up being the best because you get to spend it with your true friends and usually no matter what you do you have a good time. These memories will be with you forever.

We should appreciate and value all friendships that come into our lives, no matter how deep or superficial, we should always remember that all best friends started out just as acquaintances. You should never forget about your friends even of you have not talked to them in a while. A phone call or a letter goes a long way, just to let them know that you still care. Sometimes the greatest things in life are not the parties or the drinking or the hook-ups. It is the friendships, which will last a lifetime.

Maurice Merleau-Ponty begins his book "The phenomenology of perception" with the demonstration that a merely mechanistic physiology of the nervous system simply cannot account for the experience of our own body. Merleau-Ponty tries to show that the experience of our own body has its basis in our "existence" i.e. in our mode of "existing our body". Utilizing materials from recent psychopathology, his existential analysis deals first with the spatial and motor patterns of the body.

For Merleau-Ponty, my own body, before being an object that I can conceptualize or treat conceptually as a physiological thing, is a dimension of my own existence. The body is a lived body. Consciousness is not just something that goes on in our heads. Rather, our intentional consciousness is experienced in and through our bodies. With his concept of the lived body, Merleau-Ponty overcomes Descartes' mind-body dualism without resorting to physiological reductionism. For Descartes, the body is a machine but a living organism by which we body-forth our possibilities in the world. The current of a person's intentional existence is lived through the body. We are our bodies and consciousness is not just locked up inside the head. In his later thought, Merleau-Ponty talked of the body as "flesh", made of the same flesh of the world and it is because the flesh of the body is of the flesh of the world that we can know and understand the world.

To demonstrate this concept of the lived body, Merleau-Ponty uses the example of the phenomenon of the phantom limb the case where someone who has lost an arm or a leg still continues to "feel" it. How can this phenomenon be explained? A phantom limb would not be possible if our bodies were just machines. If a part of the machine were severed from the rest of the machine, it would not simply go without using the limb. Yet, people who have a limb amputated still feel the limb and they are still called to use this limb in situations that call for it's use, even though it is no longer there. In the same sense, the whole lived body is an intentional body, which is lived through in relation to possibilities in the world. Even when the limb is gone, the possibilities for its use remain but are unable to be taken up as a project in the world. "To have a phantom arm is to remain open to all those actions of which the arm alone is capable, it is to keep the practical field that one had before being mutilated". (Phenomenology of perception p. 81-).

The body is first of all a way of viewing the world and at the same time the way a subjective attitude both comes to know itself and express itself. The lived, phenomenal body must therefore not be thought of as an object in itself but as the way a subject is present in the world and is aware of it. Perceptual consciousness must be seen as a bodily presence in the world, a bodily awareness of the world. Here Merleau-Ponty is breaking with the Cartesian tradition and with a conception present in mush of modern philosophy that there are "two senses and two only of the word "exists" one exists as a thing or else one exists as a consciousness".

(Phenomenology of perception p. 18). The relationship between the subject and his body is, so to speak, an inner relationship at the level of perception the subject is his body.

It is important to understand that Merleau-Ponty is not resorting here to physiological reductionism. The physiologist at least traditionally sees the body, as separate parts that work together like a machine. For Merleau-Ponty, however, the body cannot be understood as a whole, as it is lived. The body as it is lived is an experiential body, a body that opens onto a world and allows the world to be for us. Physiology is not pointless, it has value no doubt but it does not get at the lived body. If we want to understand the body as it is lived in our experience, we have to use a phenomenological method. Merleau-Ponty would go so far as to argue that physiology is a second-order, intellectual abstraction from the primordial, lived body. In this sense, phenomenology can understand and incorporate physiological insights.

The body considered merely physiologically is a body in itself; it is a body which belongs to no-one. The lived body, which is for everyone his way of inhabiting the world, is a mixture of being-in-itself ands being-for-itself. The phenomenal body escapes in a fashion from the realm of the in-itself and is already a kind of subject the subject of perception. Perceptual consciousness is not a pure-for-itself; it is a body-subject, a knowing body. For Merleau-Ponty the experience that he has of his body thus teaches him a new mode of existence which belongs neither to them in-itself not the for-itself. The lived body is not a "mechanism in itself" and perceptive consciousness is not a "being for itself". This examination of the lived or phenomenal body allows Merleau-Ponty to overcome "the traditional subject-object dichotomy". In summing up the first part of the phenomenology, he is able to say, "the experience of our own body…reveals to us an ambiguous mode of existing" (PhP 18). It is ambiguous because it calls into question the traditional distinctions of object and subject. "The body is thus not an object. For the, same reason, my awareness of it is not a thought". I can only know the phenomenal body by living it, for, not being an object, an in itself, it is me myself, it is what I am, me in so much as I am conscious of the world. "I am my body….and co-relatively my body is as it were a natural subject". (PhP 18)

The lived body is that place where the in-itself and the for-itself mix and lead an ambiguous life. The body is both transcendent and immanent. It is the "third term" between subject and object. I know that transcendent things exist because I can touch them, see them, hear them. But most importantly, I never know things in their totality, but always from an embodied perspective. The thing exists "in-itself" because it resists my knowing it with total certainty. However, the thing exists "for me" because I always experience it in relation to my own body. A chair for example, is something to sit on. A desk is something to sit at and write on. Things allow for certain bodily engagements while closing off others. In this sense, things are both transcendent and immanent, things as given to experience are each an "in-itself-for-me".

If we can understand this idea of the "in-itself-for-me" we can see how experience as it is given to us is always a subject-object dialogue. I can never experience things independent of my experience as a bodily engaged being in the world; the meaning I bring to my perception is a perceiving which is embodied. It is by virtue of my embodiment that I can experience things as being up or down, as having insides or outsides, as being close or far away.

Space is always in relation to my body as situated within the world. We discover ourselves in a world, as part of a world, but not as simple objects in a spatial world. For Merleau-Ponty, it also seemed as if the world is made to be discovered by, and to respond to, our sense organs. It is this mutuality of the relation between self and world which fascinated Merleau-Ponty. The same is true of time. I can never be two places at once as a body. I am always situated in the present, on the way somewhere, as having been somewhere. Thus, experience is always in the process of becoming. Just as I am aware of things as determinate and thematic, new possibilities emerge on the horizon and the past fades away as more ambiguous.

At the level of perception, consciousness and the body together constitute "the junction of the for-itself and the in-itself" (PhP 7) and thereby form a system which is approachable from two sides. This system which Merleau-Ponty calls being in-the-world, is thus one which could be termed circular. The knowing-body possesses the power of re-reflecting itself. There are times when the "body catches itself from the outside engaged in cognitive process". I am in the process of touching an object with my right hand, suddenly my two hands cross and I touch my right hand with my left one. The hand which was "touching" becomes at that very second "touched", it ceases for a moment to be a sensing "subject" and becomes a sensed "object". The body turns back on itself and takes itself for it's own object. In this situation the body is neither completely a subject nor completely an object, it manifests an ambiguous union of the two, it is a reversible circularity.

Even though the body can turn back on itself and in this way accomplish a kind of reflection, it never succeeds in coinciding with itself. This circularity never results in an identity. When for instance, ones two hands touch each other, there is always one which acts as a subject and another which exists as an object, a single hand is never subject and object at the same time. Being neither a simple object nor a pure spirit, the lived body is dialectic of the in-itself and the for-itself, and bodily existence is an ambiguous existence.

It is ambiguous, at the level of perception existence is not in-itself existence, as the being of things is, but it is still not a "personal " existence. My existence as perceiving consciousness is closely tied up with my existence as a body, and consciousness and body are two sides of a presence to the world. The conception of the lived body as a circular system wherein "consciousness" and the "body" are but two aspects which are to a certain extent reversible requires a new conception of the world in relation to which the perceiving subject is but a global and massive presence. If the perception of the body is at the same time the perception of the world as was seen in the case of the phantom limb the perception of the world must be the other side of the perception of the body. The lived body and the perceived body are seen as co-relatives by Merleau-Ponty "The lived body is in the world as the heart is in the organism it keeps the visible spectacle constantly alive, it breathes life into it and sustains it inwardly, and with it forms a system". (PhP 0) The relation of the perceived world and the lived body is thus an internal relation such that the world and the body together constitute a system.

Space furnishes us with a good example of the circular system that is constituted by the lived body and the perceived world together. In the second chapter of the second part of the phenomenology Merleau-Ponty attempts to show how "objective" space, "objective" movement etc.. are in reality founded on our being in the world and are "encompassed in the hold that our body takes upon the world". In the "in-itself" world there would be no here or there, no high or low. Everything would be an equal distance from everything else, nothing would stand out from anything else and there would be no movement since there would be no place a "here" and a "there" to change. The world we rediscover through reflection is a world we have always inhabited through our bodies and the body is that "I can" which gives structure to the world by dividing it up and making things stand out from each other. The perceived world is structured according to the hold the body has or can have on it. Thus "everything throws us back onto the organic relations between subject and space, so that hold of the subject on the world is the origin of space". (PhP 51)

Magnitude, height, depth and all other variations of the perceived worlds spatially are "existential dimensions". "Things co-exist in space because they are present to the same perceiving subject" (PhP 75) because things and subjects co-exist through the body. The body and the world form a circuit and co-exist internally. It is because of this that there can be something like space "we have been led to bring out as the condition of spatiality, the establishment of the subject in a setting, and finally his inherence in a world." (PhP 80)

The notion of the body-subject cannot be reached through the sciences, it is more like a specific characterization of what Heidegger more generally calls 'Dasein'. The body, for Merleau-Ponty has its own set of motivations, just as we have seen in the phantom limb phenomenon. The body discloses the world for us in a certain way. It is the transcendental condition for the possibility of experiencing objects at all, our means of communication with the world.

Solving Problems

1.Suggest some changes to the system which would allow Bettina to reduce her workload while still maintaining good communication to all concerned.

Although it is always better to foresee and prevent a problem than to wait until they burst into the open it is sometimes a luxury all are not afforded. Bettina has just taken on a new position and a problem already exists within the company.

She is at the first stage of problem solving, recognising that an improvement problem exists within her company. As it is quite a complex problem a good starting place would be in drawing up a problem statement, a clear statement can be obtained by using a problem statement grid. If any distinctive features appear such as ¡§Branch managers never getting feedback¡¨ it will be highlighted and could give strong clues to the cause(s).

It will help to gather as much information as possible, this will be useful when generating possible solutions and establishing what the constraints-the restrictions -are on the solution are. Therefore she needs to speak to the Chairman, branch Managers, Salesmen, and all staff concern who submit figures to her. This information will allow her to define the problem precisely and she will see it from more than one viewpoint.

With the consent and help of these people a Brainstorming session would be of great benefit. This could be carried out in two sessions

„h the first wide-spread, uncritical and creative;

„h the second critical and focused.

This route will help Bettina and her team avoid making false assumptions because all those concerned will be forced to consider all options and constantly ask the question -Why?

From these meetings her team can draw up an action plan showing who will do what, when and how.

Any solution that they may come to must be

„h effective

„h efficient

„h viable

The best solutions can be selected by testing them against objectives, which can be thought of in terms of levels

„h Must objectives

„h Want objectives

„h Would like objectives

It is obvious that too much information is being collated every week and very important figures have become irrelevant and meaningless. Feedback to all concerned is carried out rarely and sporadically.

Delegation of work is not being carried out by the branch managers and perhaps a possible solution that could be reached is as follows

To have all information entered on branch computers by those carrying out specific tasks i.e. salesmen enter discounts given, mechanics enter parts and serving details, receptionists log enquires made etc.

At the end of each calendar month these figures can be checked by branch managers prior to their sending to the accounts office.

Then Bettina will have a lot more time to process this information and send relevant and meaningful information to all parties on a monthly basis.

This would mean

„h branch Managers receiving information on how they are performing compared to previous months and against other branches in respects of sales.

„h Management teams seeing a more detailed breakdown of costs. They will be able to re-act to potential problems on a monthly basis rather than a once or twice yearly basis.

„h Workshops seeing how much they contribute to profits.

„h Individual Salesmen seeing how they are performing as a branch team and against each other.

A solution such as this will make

„h Staff more aware of their need to perform.

„h Branch Managers more aware of their need to motivate and lead their team.

„h Management teams more aware of the car sales they need to achieve within the car sector and the importance of giving regular feedback to branch managers.

„h Chairman more aware of where his company is in the market and therefore able to make more accurate decisions on the future of his company.

Once a solution has been implemented it progress should be monitored. An evaluation can be carried out in one of four ways, in this case- By making quantitative ¡¥before and after¡¦ comparisons i.e. . Are the figures you receive now more meaningful and helpful than before?

This will tell you whether or not it is working ,how it could be improved, how to solve the next problem quicker, better and more efficiently.

Anne Frank is a 1-year-old Jewish girl. She lives in the Amsterdam. She has a family of five, Otto Frank (dad), Mother (name Unknown), Margot (sister) and Moortje (the cat). She has a diary called Kitty that she writes in a lot and that is how I learned all this stuff. She had lots of friends and lots of boys liked her, but her boy friends name was Harry. Harry wasn't aloud to see Anne because his grandmother thought she was too young for him. She went to a Private school. She liked school and studied hard.

During World War Her family built a "secret annexe" to hide in. They shared the annexe with another family called the Van Dans. The Van Dans hade one son named Peter. Peter was fairly shy and didn't say much. When he got talking though he was quiet a clown. In the annexe they had to be extremely quiet especially during the day. They could only bath one time a week and that was on Sundays. She gathered news that her friends had been arrested and that made her really depressed. Along with that she fought with her mom a lot and thought that she hated her, and liked Margot way more. Anne liked her father way more and said that she hated her mother. That made her mom very sad and she cried. Anne wouldn't take back what she said about her mother and that made things worse. They all got made at each other lots because they were in such a small place stuck with the same people and that was tough. Anne read a lot of different books. She studied a lot to. She didn't have much else to do there. They had to ration their food and use it wisely. They had lots of beans and butter. They didn't have very much meat. Some times at night they heard noises from below and were scared that there was nazis looking for them. They soon realized that it was thieves. Mr Van Dan and Mr Frank went down to check it out and the thieves herd noise and got scared. They ran away and haven't cam back since. They would some times get visitors from the out side and they would come and tell them news and what's going on out there.

I think that Anne has a very tough life and I don't know if I could handle that. She is a strong and brave girl to deal with that as good as she did. I am impressed with the way she dealt with it. If I were she I would be extremely scared and go crazy for being that bored and not being able to talk much. It must have been hard to deal with especially during adolescence. I have problems and get frustrated and I can talk and do fun things, but now I realize that my life is awesome and will enjoy it more.

Search of Justice

Teaching people morals is one of the most significant principles through all the literatures. Writers always try to give the readers a valuable lesson through their writings. These writings are always expressed in a form of stories or real experiences. The natural virtues are prudence, temperance, fortitude, and justice according to the dialogues between Socrates and his followers. Justice seems to be the most noteworthy moral among the others. Without justice, even the good people would want to be unjust because they know it well that they are going to be taken advantage if they stay good. In order to teach people morality, a definition agreed by everyone is needed. However, since everyone has a different point of view of this world, it is very hard to draw a line to separate the rights and wrongs. In the Republic, recorded by Plato and Medea, by Euripides both have show the purpose of educating the readers of justice, even though they are expressed very differently; Euripides is doing it indirectly by telling a story that is full of injustice and inequality, while Plato is simply trying to do it directly through dialogues. These two literatures are going to be used to show the theme, "Finding the universal definition of justice is one of the important goals of literatures."

In the Republic, Socrates and his followers were discussing the definition of justice and a lot of different situations were given to Socrates to decide which is justright and correct. The example given was about borrowing and returning. In general, returning something what one friend has lent from the other friend is the always correct thing. It is easy to understand this because it would not be the right if a person borrows and never returns. It would basically make the borrower have no difference to a robber, who is one kind of criminals. (Plato, n.d., 1c)

Write my Essay on Search For Justice

However, when the owner has gone out of his mind, would returning a borrowing weapon to that him still be a right thing to do? (Plato, n.d., 1c) The answer for this question would be clear only if the both the borrower and the owner know how the object is going to be used, but in this case, while the object is a weapon and the owner is not sane, this could lead to serious resultsomebody might get hurt from this supposingly correct step, harm might be done to the other or the owner or all. This concept also applies that; a person should not lend another a weapon if he knows the object is going to be used in harmful way; even he understands it will be returned with no damage, reversely.

A simple right action could wrong at certain situations. It is proven that a right action is only right at certain circumstances. It is concluded that a friend should do his friend's good and never harm, therefore one should not return or borrow a risky object to the insane person even it belongs to that person or is going to be returned to the owner. (Plato, n.d., [a]) It is shown that Socrates and his students were trying to find the precise definition by suggesting different conditions for initially just action.

Medea is a tragic play about how Medea was taking a revenge on Jason, his unfaithful husband, by using their own children to kill the new couple. In this book, rather than showing justice, Euripides chose to show the oppositeinjusticeto emphasize the origin. The injustice in this story was shown by the innocent children, the bride and the bride's father, who were all killed by Medea. At the end of the story, not only Medea did not get any punishment, but she was showing her pride because she has succeeded to carry out her evil plan.

The story started with Medea being the blamelessly heartbroken wife who is seeing her own husband betraying her and getting a new wife. As the story developed, instead of getting exile outside the country by the king, father of Jason's new bride, Medea has decided to kill the king, the girl and her own husband in order to have them suffered for what she has had tasted. "There are still trials come for the new-wedded pair, and for their relations pain it will mean something," (Euripides, 1, p.1) said by Medea, the word trial showed that Medea wants to put the new couple in justice, she wants to prove that they are guilty. Nevertheless, the truth is known that Medea is actually the guilty one because she has killed innocent people and her own flesh blood, which makes these murders crueler than ever.

"God, and God's daughter, justice, and light of Helius! Now, friends, has come the time of my triumph over my enemies, and now my foot is on the road. Now I am confident they will pay the penalty," (Euripides, 1, p.5) in this sentence, Medea has dared to call out God's name, who is supposed to be justified on everything, and Helius, who is the god of sun and also had a few mistresses to see her future victory of giving the new couple miserable pain and memories. She either thinks or does not care God would agree with her actions. The word "penalty" creates an irony here because Medea is the one who should be disciplined. Euripides has let the readers to know how it would feel when justice exists on the wrong side in order to bring out the importance of justice.

Justice is needed to keep one society in order. It is hard to find one definition for justice because everyone's senses of rightness and wrongs are very different. They also change from time to time. When exceptions happen, a right thing might not be right, or the wrong thing might become right. Justice is not as simple as telling the colors black and white apart. From The Republic, by Plato, it is shown that justice can not be said to just anymore when exception comes along; and Medea, by Euripides has revealed a world without justice to the readers and let them decide the importance of it. Since justice is so important to everyone, laws are made to protect us from being treated differently. It is understood that the meaning of justice is always defined by the majority. These two sources have proved that "finding a universal definition of justice is one of the important goals of literatures."

"A&P" is a coming of age story. The main character, Sammy, ends up quitting his job for three girls. By the time he gets outside the girls are gone, never knowing what he did for them. Although "A&P" is more than just a coming of age story it also contains symbolism. Three of these symbols are Queenie, the customers, and Mr. Lengel.

The first symbol in "A&P" I will talk about is Queenie. Queenie is a symbol of leisure and youthfulness. When Queenie and her two friends enter the A&P they are wearing nothing but a bathing suit. The A&P is five miles from the closest beach, in the middle of town. They are having fun and enjoying themselves although the way they are dressed is not appropriate for where they are, but it does not appear to bother them at all.

On the other hand another symbol of "A&P" is the customers. The customers of the A&P are symbols of monotony and old age. As the customers are entering the store Sammy calls them "sheep" because they are moving as if they were in a herd and could only go and do what they were suppose to do. The older lady that is having her order rung up has to have it done a certain way or she becomes unhappy and makes it be done her way. Also the older man that Stokes gets in his line is getting the same this that he always buy, pineapple juice, never changing or doing something new.

Like the customers in the A&P Lengel is a symbol in "A&P". Lengel is a symbol of rules and set ways. Lengel is the owner of the A&P and sees the girls who have come into the store and the way they are dressed, his ideas are that is not right so he proceeds to go over to the girls and get onto them. He gets onto the girls for the way that they are dressed in his store and, As Sammy sees it, embarrasses them. Sammy then proceeds to quit which Lengel tells Sammy that the decision to quit is not the right one and his parents would not approve of it.

When describing myself, there are many ways with can be done. Do I tell you that I have curly brown hair, brown eyes, short, with a medium build, or do I tell you that I talk incessantly, cackle when I laugh, and absolutely love life. I feel the need to wear my soul on my sleeve, willing to tell everyone almost anything about myself. I am very trusting of people, often too trusting. I am a very trustworthy person; I take everything to the grave, and expect others to do the same. In a nutshell, that's me.

My physical appearance has changed significantly over the years. As a child, my nickname was skinny, in Spanish. I was always a very small child. I was average height, until about sixth grade, when I became tall. I am still the same height as I was when I hit my growth spurt today, and I will die this height. I had sleeping problems, which caused there to be hollows under my eyes. I hadn't discovered my curly hair, or what to do about it quite yet. As a child, I was not attractive.

When I was in middle school, my appearance only changed slightly. Now dancing thirty hours a week, I was skinnier than ever, to the point where people mistook my size for having an eating disorder. Being that I was thirteen, I was aloud to wear a little bit of make-up. The make-up helped hide the hollows under my eyes. Puberty had brought me hips, which where a sight to see on my lanky body. Finally, I noticed that I had curly hair, and I learned how to style it properly. I had grown it out to be down to my middle by the end of seventh grade. My hair has always been an aspect of myself that I am proud of, and take much pride in physically.

Today I have grown into the body of a woman. I do not hold any shame for my height today, although I do wear shoes to make myself appear taller. Today, my hair is still my pride and joy physically. The idea of wearing make-up has gone from thrilling to depressing, but a girl should always look her best in public. As a student representing for all the groups that I do belong to, I should try to represent them, as well as Lee high school in its best possible light. I am a girl of many visages, which is an alternative way that I chose to communicate. The signs of a girl deep in thought can be well experienced with a glance at my face. Senior year should begin to finish the mold for what I will look like for the remainder of my life, just as my mother's did.

My mother is my best friend, and my biggest enemy. Already at my age I have realized how similar I am to her, and she to her mother. We take care of each other, always. We help each other when we fight with other family members and when one needs cash; the other one always is there. I look so much like my mother it's scary. Our only difference is our hair, her hair is straight, and my hair is curly. Our laughs are the same, we adore sleep more than anything else, and unless we are burning our candle on both ends, we do not know how to handle life, or manage our time. My mother is the single most important person in my life.

Family relations are something very important in my family. My aunt and uncle live next door with three of my cousins. I have another aunt and uncle living half an hour away with two more cousins. My other aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents live within a short road trip or a quick flight. I speak on the telephone with all of my family at least once a week, or we communicate through e-mail. My family has always been very a very close knit group, and I feel very fortunate to have them all in my life.

An object that is very special to me is my one of my key chains. I have two best friends, one of which is in college, and the other one is a year younger than I am. The friend still in high school and I bought matching key chains for the three of us while on vacation together during spring break 00. The key chain is a little silver book with a quote by Charles Dickinson on the back. The quote says "The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again." Those words are what I keep close to my heart whenever I want to cry at the thought of being so far from one of my dearest friends.

If you were to ask my friends how they would describe me, they would probably answer with "trustworthy" and "excited." I do not lie, and I am known for keeping secrets. If someone needs someone to talk to confidentially, I am whom he or she comes to. If an activity I'm involved in ask something of me, I only agree if I can do it, and I always keep my compromises. In that respect, my sponsors trust me and think of me as a responsible individual. I keep a lot on my plate, but I do not want to be in the position where I let someone down because I could not fulfil a compromise. I am known as excited because I am incapable of being lugubrious or discontented for long. I am also easily excitable, and easy to please. I am a very content individual.

An impression people often get from me which is false is that I am a "weird" drama person. I act because the stage is what keeps me centered. I am a naturally outgoing person, and I have very little shame, and these are qualities a good performer needs. I do not, however, behave myself in the manor that is often thought of as "weird," and "different." I behave myself as "normal" as anyone else; I just have a passion. It angers me that some people do not want to associate themselves with me because of my extra curricular activities. The people who are mature enough to see through the stereotype and take the time to get to know me usually find that they truly enjoy the person behind the image. This image is one I look forward to loosing the most when I go off to college.

The person that I am today is one of many qualities. On the outside I am known for image, jokingly as the "fashion police" never breaking a rule myself. These qualities all transcend from my mother, being that she is the vainest person I know. I have spent my entire life having to dress to every occasion. I have never been aloud to go out in public without putting effort in my appearance. Due to this, I have a hard time with friends when they roll out of bed, or just dress without thought. I sometimes expect from those around me what has always been expected of me, but it is wrong to think that way. I have improved my attitude dramatically from what it used to be, and I hope I can continue to improve.

I have been raised around adults, and adult conversation my entire life. My cousins are considerably younger than I am, being that in comparison the next eldest is my younger sister, and I am four years her elder. I have never joined in playing with my cousins because of this fact; I have always been the baby-sitter. When I grow tired of this I often join the adults in their conversation, and I am very fortunate to have been aloud to do this. I learned how to handle adult conversation at a very young age, which is a very valuable lesson. I have been above my years in maturity for years, which has always proven hard for me to find peers my own age that I feel I can truly relate to. I find it humorous that at the same time, at this moment in my life, the person whom I best relate to is actually a year younger than I am. She is also a person who has grown with adults, and therefore is capable of adult conversation, which I yearn for. Meeting her has been one of the best things to happen to me.

Dance, theater, and anything that has to do with performing, are all things that control my life. The stage runs my life, as if has since the age of three. I started out dancing, and have trained in many styles, but ballet is my strength, followed by character. The feeling that I get on stage means more to me then anything, the fear, the hours of rehearsal, the tears, the lack of time for almost anything else. Without it I don't feel complete. My whole family life is based around my sister and I performing. She dances competitively, and I act now, no longer competing. Our family vacation is always based off where my sister's national dance competition is going to be held. We have family come visit on the weekends of my plays so that they can come and watch. I stopped dancing and started acting at the end of my sophomore year, and I'm grateful that I waited that long, because its hard to be your own person when you spend all your time creating a character, figuring out how to be someone else. My life is the stage.

In my life I have many weaknesses. One of these weaknesses is that I trust people easier than I probably should. I expect of people what they can expect of me, as well as treat them as I expect to be treated. With this in mind, I share what is on my mind when I feel the need to share that information. I do not tend to ask people about the information in their own lives because I figure if they would like my knowing, they will tell me themselves. I wear my soul on my sleeve, and often that has come back to haunt me. As much as I know I should keep certain things to myself if I do not want my personal affairs spread, I continue to trust people and in turn continue to trust them. I honestly do not know how to better this weakness without becoming a closed off person to the world. If I closed myself off I would never be happy.

Another weakness in my life is my need for sleep. I will put sleep before personal responsibilities always. If I become too tired to finish my homework, then I will simply sleep and suffer the consequences. This is what has kept my GPA at what it is today, because homework does play a large role in an overall grade. I have no problem waking up in the morning; my weakness lies in staying awake in the evening. Ever since I entered high school I have become the queen of power naps, my means for keeping me refreshed and going. If I didn't overbook myself perhaps I could get to bed at a decent time everyday, and would no longer suffer from my need of sleep.

Along with my weaknesses, I have many strengths. One of my strengths is language. I feel comfortable carrying on conversations in foreign languages, and love them very much. I hope to double major in foreign languages and international relations. I currently speak Spanish and French fluently, along with English. If I can use these talents in my career, I would be happy for the rest of my life. I want to travel, and possibly spend some years living in France. That is my dream from the bottom of my heart. In traveling I would be able to practice my other languages, something I feel I never get to do quite enough.

A second strength of mine would have to be my people skills. I am a very outgoing person, and therefore have no problem speaking to people. My job allows me to put these people skills to use, working at a hair salon, and that people love to talk. My people skills are something that is very important to have, and am glad I have. Being class treasurer I have to deal with my entire class, and if I had no people skills this class would not elect me to represent them, nor would they feel comfortable approaching me with questions. Student feedback is what this class thrives on, and without people skills, I could not give and receive feedback. Again, I am glad that I have people skills.

My greatest fear is of failing. If I do not graduate from college and make something of myself I will be able to even look myself in the mirror. I'm scared that I might go off to college and spend all of my time on the social part of the college life, and none of my time concentrating on my studies. If I do not graduate I will not succeed to my full potential in this life. I worry about this, because while I refuse to let down other people, I have no trouble letting down myself. If not following through on a responsibility is not hurting anyone other than myself, I will have no problem skipping it. While I am not a procrastinator, I am someone who has a demanding schedule, so I eliminate things from it as I see fit. This scares me about myself, because I fear that one-day it may be my downfall, where I stumble. If I fall hard enough, I may never be able to get back up again. That particular thought haunts my every second. I am destine to be something great, and I can't settle on something second rate, I only desire the best. To achieve the best, you must prove yourself worthy, and I do not believe that I will be able to succeed in doing so.

In my consideration, my greatest education has been in high school. I do not feel that anything academically connected directly is what has been my greatest lesson, but rather high school its self. Learning to look into a person, rather than at a person is one very important lesson I have learned. Going from being on the dance team and labeled as "popular" to becoming an outcast through my involvement in drama has given me the first hand experience as to why this is so important. Nothing you can see with the human eye is what makes a person. A person is the soul, which you can never meet without a friendly conversation. This is a lesson that I did not learn until I started high school.

Another valuable lesson I have learned is how to somehow manage my time. Although I sometimes let myself down because of lack of time, I have learned to manage my time. I have learned the strength of being able to say no when you have no time, and to do just what is expected, as quickly as possible. If I had never learned to manage my time, then I would do nothing and feel miserable all the time. I would probably have already messed my life up bad at this point in time, and would not even be thinking of college. Without the activities and the workload I never would have learned time management.

A negative experience was my GT English and history class my freshman year of high school. The trauma I went through because of this class has forever scared me of English. I have kept my distance from the subject, because of honest fear. I was told repeatedly that I would fail as an English student, and have fear too much to attempt to prove my teacher wrong. I also did not join the IB program out of fear of continuing with the teachers whom I currently was working with. I have never again experienced trauma since that particular class, but I still shudder at the thought of it. In conclusion, I am a person of many layers, that has barely been tapped into, but hopefully is understood a little better.
